Build Streamlit apps in Amazon SageMaker Studio
Developing web interfaces to interact with a machine learning (ML) model is a tedious task. With Streamlit, developing demo applications for your ML solution is easy. Streamlit is an open-source Python library that makes it easy to create and share web apps for ML and data science. As a data scientist, you may want to showcase your findings for a dataset, or deploy a trained model. Streamlit applications are useful for presenting progress on a project to your team, gaining and sharing insights to your managers, and even getting feedback from customers.

Set up Amazon SageMaker Studio with Jupyter Lab 3 using the AWS CDK
Amazon SageMaker Studio is a fully integrated development environment (IDE) for machine learning (ML) partly based on JupyterLab 3. Studio provides a web-based interface to interactively perform ML development tasks required to prepare data and build, train, and deploy ML models. In Studio, you can load data, adjust ML models, move in between steps to adjust experiments, compare results, and deploy ML models for inference. The AWS Cloud Development Kit (AWS CDK) is an open-source software development framework to create AWS CloudFormation stacks through automatic CloudFormation template generation. A stack is a collection of AWS resources, that can be programmatically updated, moved, or deleted. AWS CDK constructs are the building blocks of AWS CDK applications, representing the blueprint to define cloud architectures.
Text classification for online conversations with machine learning on AWS
Online conversations are ubiquitous in modern life, spanning industries from video games to telecommunications. This has led to an exponential growth in the amount of online conversation data, which has helped in the development of state-of-the-art natural language processing (NLP) systems like chatbots and natural language generation (NLG) models. Over time, various NLP techniques for text analysis have also evolved. This necessitates the requirement for a fully managed service that can be integrated into applications using API calls without the need for extensive machine learning (ML) expertise. AWS offers pre-trained AWS AI services like Amazon Comprehend, which can effectively handle NLP use cases involving classification, text summarization, entity recognition, and more to gather insights from text.

Clinical text mining using the Amazon Comprehend Medical new SNOMED CT API
Mining medical concepts from written clinical text, such as patient encounters, plays an important role in clinical analytics and decision-making applications, such as population analytics for providers, pre-authorization for payers, and adverse-event detection for pharma companies. Medical concepts contain medical conditions, medications, procedures, and other clinical events. Extracting medical concepts is a complicated process due to the specialist knowledge required and the broad use of synonyms in the medical field. Furthermore, to make detected concepts useful for large-scale analytics and decision-making applications, they have to be codified. This is a process where a specialist looks up matching codes from a medical ontology, often containing tens to hundreds of thousands of concepts.
Hyundai reduces ML model training time for autonomous driving models using Amazon SageMaker
Hyundai Motor Company, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, is one of the largest car manufacturers in the world. They have been heavily investing human and material resources in the race to develop self-driving cars, also known as autonomous vehicles. One of the algorithms often used in autonomous driving is semantic segmentation, which is a task to annotate every pixel of an image with an object class. These classes could be road, person, car, building, vegetation, sky, and so on. In a typical development cycle, the team at Hyundai Motor Company tests the accuracy periodically, and gathers additional images to correct for the insufficient predictive performance in specific situations.

Multimodal deep learning approach for event detection in sports using Amazon SageMaker
Have you ever thought about how artificial intelligence could be used to detect events during live sports broadcasts? With machine learning (ML) techniques, we introduce a scalable multimodal solution for event detection on sports video data. Recent developments in deep learning show that event detection algorithms are performing well on sports data [1]; however, they're dependent upon the quality and amount of data used in model development. This post explains a deep learning-based approach developed by the Amazon Machine Learning Solutions Lab for sports event detection using Amazon SageMaker. Our solution uses a multimodal architecture utilizing video, static images, audio, and optical flow data to develop and fine-tune a model, followed by boosting and a postprocessing algorithm.
Predicting soccer goals in near real time using computer vision
In a soccer game, fans get excited seeing a player sprint down the sideline during a counterattack or when a team is controlling the ball in the 18-yard box because those actions could lead to goals. However, it is difficult for human eyes to fully capture such fast movements, let alone predict goals. With machine learning (ML), we can incorporate more fine-grained information at the pixel level to develop a solution that predicts goals with high confidence before they happen. Sportradar, a leading real-time sports data provider that collects and analyzes sports data, and the Amazon ML Solutions Lab collaborated to develop a computer vision-based Soccer Goal Predictor to detect exciting moments that lead to goals, thereby increasing fan engagement and helping broadcasters provide viewers an enhanced experience. Most action recognition models are used to identify events when they occur, but Amazon ML Solutions Lab developed a novel computer vision-based Soccer Goal Predictor that can predict future soccer goals 2 seconds in advance of the event.

Automated model refresh with streaming data
In today's world, being able to quickly bring on-premises machine learning (ML) models to the cloud is an integral part of any cloud migration journey. This post provides a step-by-step guide for launching a solution that facilitates the migration journey for large-scale ML workflows. This solution was developed by the Amazon ML Solutions Lab for customers with streaming data applications (e.g., predictive maintenance, fleet management, autonomous driving). Some of the AWS services used in this solution include Amazon SageMaker, which is a fully managed service that provides every developer and data scientist with the ability to build, train, and deploy ML models quickly, and Amazon Kinesis, which helps with real-time data ingestion at scale. Being able to automatically refresh ML models with new data can be of high value to any business when an ML model drifts.

Delivering real-time racing analytics using machine learning Amazon Web Services
AWS DeepRacer is a fun and easy way for developers with no prior experience to get started with machine learning (ML). At the end of the 2019 season, the AWS DeepRacer League engaged the Amazon ML Solutions Lab to develop a new sports analytics feature for the AWS DeepRacer Championship Cup at re:Invent 2019. The purpose for these real-time analytics was to provide context and more in-depth experience with top competitors' strategies and tactics. This helped viewers tangibly interpret how specific model strategy translated to on-track performance, which further demystified ML development and demonstrated its real-world application. This enhancement enabled fans to monitor the performance and driving style of competitors from around the world.
